Blurring the Lines Between Film and Figures

One of our regular customers, Peter Kambasis, along with a friend in the UK have produced an interesting Star Wars fan film. They've recreated the Carbon Freeze sequence from The Empire strikes Back using action figures!

McFarlane Announces The Simpsons Series 1 Lineup

The McFarlane Toys first full Simpsons line is one of the most anticipated series of action figures in recent memory. Six new figures and one new box set are headed your way, and we're very excited about the lineup.

"Simple Simpson" -- Homer and Bart as the Pie Man and the Cupcake Kid, respectively. This fan-favorite episode originally -- originally aired on May 2, 2004 -- was a parody of Spider-Man 2. "Wherever danger appears, the Pie Man will strike!"

Homer & Krusty (of Homie the Clown) -- Homer becomes strangely fixated with the prospect of becoming a clown, and enters Krusty's training camp. Harkening back to the fifteenth episode of the Simpsons sixth season, which originally aired on Feb. 12, 1995.

Treehouse of Horrors: "The Raven" -- In this parody, Bart is the raven, Homer is the poem's lead character, Lisa and Maggie are seraphim, and Marge appears in a painting. Original airdate: October 25, 1990

Homer and Bart: "Why You..." -- featuring Homer and Bart, pushed to their limits. The father and son dynamic, Simpsons style.

Kamp Krusty -- When summer camp ("The Krustiest Place On Earth") doesn't turn out to be all he had hoped for, Bart stages a coup.

Treehouse of Horrors XV: "Marge and Homer in the Belly of the Boss" -- Originally airing on Nov. 7, 2004, this episode featured the Simpsons being miniaturized and injected into the body of Mr. Burns in a parody of the 1966 classic science-fiction movie, The Fantastic Voyage.

Boxed Set: Itchy & Scratchy: "Cape Feare: Spay Anything" -- This multiple-figure set re-creates one of Scratchy's most harrowing moments -- he sees a sign at Itchy's Cat Hospital that says "We Pay Your Pet $75." The minute Scratchy enters the hospital, Itchy reveals the sign said "We Spay Your Pet $75"!

The Simpsons Series 1 is scheduled for release in January 2007.

McFarlane Sports Picks NHL Series 13

McFarlane NHL 13 lineup raised eyebrows and generated applause when it was announced a few months back. Five of the players in NHL 13 are making their Sports Picks debuts, while the lone "Sports Picks veteran" is showing off his new team's jersey and celebrating the rejuvenation of his already-impressive career. It's easy to get excited about NHL 13's numbers: five new players, two standout rookies, and one missing tooth.

DANY HEATLEY: Ottawa's new left wing turned in a career year in his first season in Canada's capital. The NHL's rule changes and Ottawa's wide-open style gave Heatley the freedom to play his game, and no one is arguing with the results. Heatley led the Senators in scoring and was one of only three players to score 50 or more goals in the 2005-06 season. Just imagine what he could do with a full set of teeth...

ALEXANDER OVECHKIN: The rookie hype leading into the season was all about Pittsburgh's Sidney Crosby, but Alexander Ovechkin stole half the spotlight by season's end. With 52 goals and 54 assists, Ovechkin became only the second rookie in NHL history (alongside Teemu Selanne) to score 50 goals and tally 100 points in his rookie season. The Russian superstar's 106 points are the second best in team history, begging the question -- "What's he going to do for an encore?"

BRYAN McCABE: Toronto's high-octane defenseman proved that the best defense is a good offense, scoring 19 goals while dishing out 49 assists in 2005-06. McCabe's offensive output ranked him third in scoring among defensemen, and helped him pair with Tomas Kaberle as the highest-scoring defensive teammates in the NHL.

HENRIK LUNDQVIST: Jaromir Jagr's return to form helped push the Rangers into the playoffs for the first time since 1996-97, but the stalwart play of rookie goalie Henrik Lundqvist was just as important. Lundqvist helped lead Sweden to Olympic Gold midway through the NHL season, but a hip injury sat him down for most of the stretch run. Lundqvist turned in an impressive 30-12-9 record, playing in only 53 games. He finished the season ranked fifth in goals-against-average (2.24) and fourth in save percentage (.922).

ALEX TANGUAY: Colorado needed someone to step up and fill the scoring void left by the exit of Peter Forsberg, and Alex Tanguay was happy to fit the bill. Tanguay's 29 goals and 49 assists placed him second in scoring on the team (behind captain Joe Sakic) and his playoff performance helped bump Dallas in the first round.

JOE THORNTON 2: The first significant trade of this NHL season also ended up being the MOST significant. San Jose sent three players to Boston in exchange for Joe Thornton. The trade sparked Thornton, and his arrival lifted the cellar-dwelling Sharks into the NHL playoffs and all the way to the Western Conference Finals. Thornton led the NHL in scoring with 125 points.

NHL 13 is scheduled to hit stores in early October 2006.

Another Satisfied Customer

We always love hearing from our customers whether it's good or bad. But when it's good, and you send us a photo, we like to share it with everyone:
The most recent purchase I have made from your store was some vintage star wars actions figures and the vintage style diorama.
The condition of shipping was awesome. The quality of the figures was dead on.
Enjoy this pic of me enjoying my purchase.
Keep up the great service.
Thanks, and may the force be with you.
Chris Cochrane/Lonnie Penny

Thanks for the positive feedback and the photo Chris.

Star Wars Action Figure Display Diorama

2006: Summer of Superman

You don't have to be paying very close attention to know that there are a bunch of sequels being released this summer. All you have to do is look at the movies being run on TV. Earlier in the year everyone was airing X-Men and X2 in preperation for the release of the latest X-Men installment.

Last night I had the choice between two networks airing Superman/Superman II and CBC with Pirates of the Caribbean. I opted for Pirates mainly because I had seen Superman more recently. I've actually been seeing a lot of Superman recently. Not just the movies but other programming. A couple weeks ago A&E had a special on the history of Superman. Last night, along with everything else Superman related, Discovery had a special on 'the Science of Superman'. Have we gone a little far when we start examining scientific theories surrounding a comic book character?

By the way, in case you really haven't been paying attention, Superman Returns is in theatres June 28. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest comes out July 7.

Star Wars TITANIUM ULTRA SERIES Die Cast AT-AT Walker

Growing up, the AT-AT Walker was quite possibly the coolest vehicle on the block. It was enormous, battery powered, and, well... it was enormous!

Unfortunately due to the size and the price tag, many of us were not fortunate enough to have one as part of our backyard play.

There have been a number of takes on the AT-AT since the original Kenner vehicle. It was re-released as part of the Power of the Force 2 line. Master Replicas made it the subject of one of their Studio Scale models. Code 3 also plans on releasing a die-cast model.

But for me, the new Titanium Ultra AT-AT Walker offers the most bang for the buck. It is a decent size, but not too big that it would overwhelm everything in its presence. It is very nicely detailed. It comes with a pesky little snowspeeder. And its only $24.99.

Star Wars Gentle Giant Bust-Ups Series 6

We just received our shipment of Star Wars Series 6 Bust-Ups. For thos of you not familiar with Bust-Ups, they are highly detailed, plastic , miniature bust model kits. The are in scale with the 3 3/4 inch Hasbro figures. They are produced by Gentle Giant who are also known for their amazing collectible sculptures and busts.

This series features six characters from the Mos Eisley Cantina: Han Solo, Ponda Baba (a.k.a. Walrus Man), Snaggletooth, Bith (Cantina Band Member), Greedo and Obi-Wan Kenobi.

There are also two chase variants with this series: a blue holographic Obi-Wan Kenobi wich is reported to be packed one per case and a Blue Snaggletooth, no doubt paying homage to the original Kenner figure, which is apparently more rare.

Gentle Giant has changed up the packaging on this series. The cardboard box has been replaced with a slightly larger plastic box. There is now a sticker covering the front, top and bottom of the box making it very difficult to peek for chase figures without damaging the sticker. There will be no peeking in our DC so if we ship you a holo Kenobi or Blue Snag please post a celebratory comment here!

DC Direct now available at GoldenAgeToys.com

Just in case you hadn't noticed yet, GoldenAgeToys.com is now carrying DC Direct action figures. Most of these figures are of the 6 inch variety but there's also a line of 13 Inch collector figures for those of you who prefer the larger scale pieces.

My favourite series has to be the Alex Ross Justice League figures. They are just so well done. I would love to see Hasbro do a line of Star Wars figures at this scale and at this level of quality. The sculpts are amazing, and the level of detail is just fabulous. Plus, since it's the Justice League, all of your favourite heroes and villans are here. Series 3 just came out a little while ago with Series 4 due out later this year.

If you are into DC Comics heroes at all this series is definitely worth a look.
