Grenadiers are usually assigned to a squad that can include a team leader, rifleman, automatic rifleman with a heavier caliber weapon, and a grenadier. Each squad member has a different responsibility, so that the squad is staffed to handle a variety of combat situations. Grenade launchers are used by grenadiers to clear caves, bunkers, buildings and other places where the enemy is firmly embedded and resists leaving or surrendering. The single-shot launcher is attached to an M16 rifle and fires a variety of low velocity 40mm ammunition. Grenadiers also wear grenade vests with multiple pockets for holding ammunition. Wherever their missions take them around the world, grenadiers contribute their skill and courage to the fight for peace and justice.
