Even before from her first appearance in Prisoner of Azkaban , Professor Trelawney was always an important character in the Magical world of Harry Potter. Prior to the events of the Harry Potter films, Trelawney makes a prophecy about the birth of a wizard "with the power to vanquish" Voldemort. This prophecy was overheard by Snape, who quickly informed Voldemort; leading the dark wizard to attack the Potter family, believing that Harry was the child Trelawney spoke of.
